Cylinder Liner The main functions of the excavator cylinder liner include:

1. Forming the working space of the cylinder: The cylinder liner, together with the cylinder head and piston, forms the working space of the cylinder, ensuring the normal operation of the engine.

2. Bearing the lateral thrust of the piston: For a cylindrical piston diesel engine, the cylinder liner bears the lateral thrust of the piston, guiding the reciprocating motion of the piston to ensure its stability and accuracy.

3. Heat transfer: The cylinder liner is responsible for transferring the heat from the piston assembly and itself to the cooling water, maintaining the appropriate working temperature of the engine and preventing overheating.

4. Achieving gas distribution: In a two-stroke diesel engine, the cylinder liner is equipped with air ports that are opened and closed by the piston to achieve gas distribution, ensuring the normal combustion of the engine.

There are two main types of cylinder liners: dry liners and wet liners. Dry cylinder liners do not come into direct contact with the cooling water, providing good sealing and less risk of air leakage, but they are difficult to disassemble. Wet cylinder liners come into direct contact with the cooling water, making them easier to cast and replace, but they may have lower stiffness, leading to potential air and water leakage issues.
