The main function of the excavator connecting rod assembly is to connect the piston and the crankshaft, transmitting the force exerted on the piston to the crankshaft, while converting the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft.

The connecting rod assembly consists of multiple components, including the connecting rod body, big end cap, small end bushing, big end bearing, and connecting rod bolts (or screws). These components work together to withstand the gas forces from the piston pin, the swinging motion of the connecting rod itself, and the inertial forces from the reciprocating piston assembly.
