The main function of the main relief valve of an excavator is to limit the maximum pressure of the entire hydraulic system to protect the system from damage.

The main relief valve of the excavator is located on the distributor valve body. As a safety valve, its role is to set the maximum pressure of the entire hydraulic system when the excavator is in operation. When the system pressure exceeds the set pressure of the main relief valve, the main relief valve will open, allowing hydraulic oil to flow back to the tank, thus preventing the hydraulic pressure from getting too high and protecting hydraulic components and seals from damage. Additionally, the main relief valve can also control the speed of the excavator’s movements by adjusting the system pressure. If the spring in the main relief valve breaks or the set pressure is too low, it will result in the overall system pressure being too low, causing the main pump pressure oil to not be able to properly operate the actuating elements, potentially leading to slow or no movement of the machine. Therefore, the proper functioning and adjustment of the main relief valve are crucial for the performance and safety of the excavator.
