The main function of the drive shaft of an excavator is to enhance the smoothness of the excavator and allow the drive wheels to rotate at different angular speeds.
The drive shaft of an excavator is a special type of shaft component installed in the working device of the excavator. Its main working conditions include bearing alternating stresses such as torsion, shear, tension, and impact, as well as generating torsional and bending vibrations, additional stresses, and uneven stress distribution. At the same time, there is sliding friction between the drive shaft neck and the bearing. These working conditions require the drive shaft material to have high strength, a certain level of impact toughness, sufficient bending and torsional fatigue strength, and stiffness. The surface of the shaft neck needs to have high hardness and wear resistance to ensure stable performance during long-term use, minimizing wear and breakage.
Compared to the transmission shaft, the drive shaft is located at the front of the vehicle and is a component of the loader’s working device specifically designed to enhance the smoothness of the loader and allow the drive wheels to rotate at different angular speeds. Unlike the transmission shaft, which mainly transmits power, the drive shaft focuses more on controlling the movement of the drive wheels.
