Many Mechanics Repair Piston Rings Due to High Exhaust and Short Lifespan, Mainly Caused by Piston Ring Gap Alignment
Accurate Assembly Steps for Piston Rings:
1. Assembly Order: The second compression ring should be installed first, followed by the first compression ring. Ensure that the openings of each ring are in a staggered position.
2. Staggered Openings: To effectively prevent the combustible mixture from escaping through the gaps in the piston ring openings, the openings of each compression ring should be set to staggered positions of 90 degrees or 120 degrees relative to each other.
3. Orientation and Lubrication: During assembly, ensure that the marked side of the piston ring faces the top of the piston. Additionally, apply an appropriate amount of standard lubricant to the piston rings and their shafts.
4. Angle and Width of Openings: The openings of the piston rings should maintain a certain angle with the cylinder wall, and the width of the openings during assembly should not exceed eight times the axial thickness of the ring.
Proper assembly of piston rings is crucial for maintaining the sealing between the piston and the cylinder. This can effectively prevent the jamming of the piston and cylinder or rings due to gas leakage, as well as avoid failures caused by the degradation of lubricant performance.
