The main function of the excavator’s external filters is to filter out impurities and dust, preventing them from entering the engine or hydraulic system, thereby protecting the normal operation of the engine and hydraulic system.

The excavator’s external filters include the air filter, diesel filter, and oil filter, each serving different filtration tasks. Specifically:

Air Filter: Its primary role is to provide clean air to the engine, preventing the engine from inhaling air containing particulate impurities during operation, which reduces the risk of wear and damage.

Diesel Filter: This filter removes moisture and mechanical impurities from the diesel, including small amounts of water vapor from the diesel tank and mechanical impurities in the diesel. It ensures the purity of the diesel, reduces the risk of fuel injector failure, and extends the engine’s lifespan.

Oil Filter: The oil filter removes dust, metal particles, carbon deposits, and soot from the engine oil, protecting the engine. Engine oil is often referred to as the “blood” of the engine, serving functions such as lubrication, cleaning, cooling, sealing, wear reduction, rust prevention, and corrosion protection. The oil filter ensures the purity of the oil, providing necessary protection to the engine.

If these external filters are not replaced in a timely manner, excessive impurities can accumulate, leading to unfiltered oil that may clog the oil pathways, resulting in wear and affecting the normal operation of the excavator. Therefore, regular replacement and maintenance of these external filters are crucial to ensure the proper functioning of the excavator.
