The main function of the excavator engine fan is to assist in cooling the engine and prevent it from overheating.
The cooling system of the excavator engine consists of two primary circulation processes: air circulation and coolant circulation. The engine fan rotates to draw in cool air from outside and directs this air into the engine compartment, blowing it towards the engine to help lower its temperature. This process involves multiple radiators, including the hydraulic oil cooler, air conditioning condenser, and potentially an intercooler and the engine’s own cooling fins. These radiators use the flow of cool air driven by the fan to dissipate the heat generated during engine operation, ensuring that the engine operates within an appropriate temperature range and avoiding performance degradation or damage due to overheating.
Additionally, the selection and matching of the fan are critical. The diameter of the fan is determined based on the size of the water radiator, the overall dimensions of the machine, and the relative positioning of the fan to the water radiator. It is also important to consider that the noise produced by the fan is related to its rotational speed; therefore, the tip speed of the fan blades is limited to below 90 m/s. This ensures that an appropriate fan speed and transmission ratio are selected to achieve optimal cooling performance while controlling noise levels.
It is also important to note that the sealing of the engine compartment is crucial for the efficiency of the cooling system. If the engine compartment seal is damaged or the engine cover is opened, it may disrupt the airflow that the fan draws in, adversely affecting the cooling effect. Therefore, maintaining a good seal in the engine compartment is an important aspect of ensuring the normal operation of the excavator.
