The steering cylinder of an excavator is an important component of the steering system, responsible for enabling the steering function through a series of working principles. Specifically, when the driver issues a steering command through the steering wheel, the control valve guides hydraulic fluid to one side of the steering cylinder, initiating the movement of the piston. As the piston moves, it transmits hydraulic pressure to the other side of the piston through a shim, which acts as a seal and pressure transmitter. When the hydraulic pressure is transmitted to the shim, it rotates the steering rod, thereby achieving the steering of the excavator. In this process, hydraulic fluid flows into the cylinder from the steering pump through a supply pipe and returns the used fluid to the steering pump through a return pipe, creating a continuous circulation flow that allows the steering system to operate continuously. Additionally, there is a damper inside the cylinder that controls speed and dampens shocks by adjusting the flow rate of the hydraulic fluid, ensuring smooth and safe steering operation.
